One to One Mentoring
This week seems to have been very busy mentoring other photographers. The mentoring I offer is a bit different in that we cover the business side as well as the photographic side of things. I’m a great believer in the fact that everyone is different and what each person wants to achieve from their business is different so you need to tailor your business to suit YOU an the lifestyle that YOU want.
It is very easy to get caught up in online forum discussions about full-time/part-time/weekend photographers as though one is better than the other and this can leave people feeling quite demoralised at times. We all come in to photography from different paths and we all want different things from our businesses. When you have young children it may work best for you to fit your work around your family so why put the additional pressure on yourself by feeling you HAVE to be full-time or you are not a “proper” photographer ? It may be that you are looking for a career change and want to replace one full-time income with another. It may be that you are looking to change your lifestyle and spend less time working but really enjoy what you do. These are all very different types of business and planning and their isn’t a “one size fits all” plan that will work for everyone, it is all about tailoring it for YOU to help you achieve your goals and ambitions.
The first part of mentoring is to work out what you actually want to achieve and start putting some numbers to it; wether it is an amount of money that you want to earn each month or a number of weddings/portrait sessions that you want to photograph. It is a bit like getting in a car to go on a journey. Unless you know where you are heading how will you know how to get there ?
In addition to this I also cover the photographic side, we look at your existing work and then what you need to work on to improve this. Quite often this is a mix of learning how to use the kit that you have, composition, using light and posing; each month you will go away with some tasks to practise that will really benefit you and your business.
The biggest investment you can make in your business is in yourself. If you are interested in mentoring then please contact me for more information.
